A housing plan that meets our needs: Completion of area wide-plans to provide clarity and transparency for future planning on a district wide basis - supporting housing diversity to allow people of all ages to remain in Saanich for all stages of life with the necessary community supports.

Better engagement: Implement new approaches to engagement and communications to reflect the greater diversity of the population and create user-friendly, accessible digital and print materials that clearly and transparently explain the goals of our district's housing policy.

More options for homeowners: Continue to improve and simplify the processes for homeowners and others looking to add housing options - reducing delays that add cost and reduce affordability of these options.

Housing-transport alignment: Ensure housing and transportation plans are aligned and recognize that Saanich is an important artery for delivery of products and people across the region. This means making sure our roads are well-maintained and uncongested, and that safe and reliable public transit and active transportation options are available to residents.

Efficiency and excellence: While we have made good progress in leveraging IT to create greater efficiencies, there is more to do. My past experience has helped me understand how to deliver excellence in the public sector, not only by employing new technologies, but by also reviewing and redesigning business processes and structures to find ways to make them work better.

A culture of simplicity: Create a culture of simplicity, recognizing that no matter how complicated the issue may be, what is asked of the resident, business or organization should be as simple and accessible as possible. Our business processes should provide complete, reliable direction from the outset for anyone seeking services: For example, 'one stop shopping’ for the customer - no requirement to go to multiple departments when applying for services.

Measure our results: Develop key performance indicators for service standards - what is measured can be managed and improved; report these figures on the Saanich website.

Clarity and accountability: Use plain language when communicating with the public, and provide more opportunities for residents and businesses to be heard earlier in the process.

Protect our natural environment: Our natural riches, particularly our 172 parks, are some of Saanich’s greatest assets, and must be protected and restored. We also must continue to uphold our urban containment boundary and work to meet our tree canopy goals. These actions will help maintain healthy diverse ecosystems, build climate resilience and keep our natural beauty.

Develop park-specific management plans: Every significant natural park has unique environmental challenges and opportunities. We need to prioritize comprehensive management plans for parks such as PKOLS (Mt Doug), Cuthbert Holmes, Mount Tolmie, Panama Flats and other key natural areas. These plans will be developed through public engagement and collaboration with First Nations, balancing ecological restoration, cultural values, habitat protection and public access. Our volunteer park stewards are an essential part of this.

A voluntary private land stewardship program: Protecting nature does not stop at park boundaries. A voluntary private land stewardship program supports residents, businesses, and community organizations in protecting and restoring native habitat, ecosystems and environmentally sensitive lands.

Leading on sustainability: Keep Saanich a sustainability and climate leader by keeping our emissions commitments to reach net zero, and working with other municipalities and levels of government to manage our waste and water more responsibly in the CRD.
